logically negative in the calculations of re-
sults.
Despite the relatively poor results of gastric
cytology compared with x-ray in this group
of malignant cases the supplementary value of
gastric cytology is considered to be well shown
by its ability to detect a significant number of
malignant gastric tumors while still small and
superficial where the x-ray examination shows
doubtful or negative results.
The problems of early diagnosis of gastric
cancer are discussed.
