Notes
94® Cavsam Gudmundi: The result of the case is not known;
only so much is known that nothing happened to GuSmundur Hå-
konarson.
9410"1'1 Obitu ... Regis: Christian IV died on Febr. 28th, 1648,
and the new king, Frederik III, was crowned on Nov. 23M same
year.
95® Literatura: The second edition of Lit. Run. appeared in
1651.
9511 filio parochiam resignare: This piece of advice was too
late. The letter did not reach A. J. while he was still alive, as he
died on June 27th, 1648, see letter no. 65 (p. 136). I>orkell Am-
grimsson was also too young to be considered, cf. Worm’s words
about this to Einar Amfinnsson in letter no. 66.
48-56. Benedikt Magnusson was a son of the minister, Magnus
Olafsson at Laufås, Worm’s correspondent through many years, see
below the note to nos. 110-27. M. left for Copenhagen in 1626,
was matriculated on Nov. 13Æ same year and chose Worm for
præceptor privatus, no doubt at his father’s wish, cf. Magnus Olafs-
son’s recommendation of his son in letter no. 110. Worm saw to it
that he received support (see p. 21125), but seems to have been
somewhat disappointed at his conduct, particularly his drinking (see
pp. 21127"29, 2i 532-2 i65). B. M. returned home in 1629 without any
testimonial from Worm, and Magnus Olafsson in the same year
asks Worm for an explanation of this in letter no. 114; Worm ex-
plains it in letter no. 115 to Magnus and in no. 48 to B. M. His
testimonial, which was sent together with letter no. 48, is printed p.
330. Bishop borlåkur Skulason would, however, not give B. M. any
office, and Magnus Olafsson several times troubled Worm to get
his assistance on this occasion, but without success. B. M. never
received any office in spite of Worm’s representations to Bishop
borlåkur and the governor-general. See PEOl. Mom. IV 264-66.
48. W I 146V. Not printed in WE. Probably written at the
same time as the immediately preceding no. 172.—-Worm reproaches
B. M. with leaving Copenhagen without paying his debt and without
letting Worm know. Nevertheless sends his private testimonial, but
