received last year’s letter from S. J. Sends a letter to Amgrimur
Jonsson, which he asks S. J. to forward.
25424 Literis: Worm, however, got this letter next year, see p.
255®, but now it is lost.—The Hofsos merchant, Willer, was wrecked
at Iceland on his way to Denmark in the autumn of 1644, see An-
nålar I 284.
2542S> Inclusas: Letter no. 40; an Icelandic undergraduate has
taken both letters along to Iceland, see the note to the beginning of
no. 40.
25432 Scripsi: Letter no. 197 (sent by Erlendur Olafsson).
148. W I 348 r-v; WE II 632-33 (with omissions). Written
after June 5th, but not later than June i8th (the day on which the
following letter in the copy-book, no. 42, is dated).—Worm thanks
for two letters. Asks about the Icelandic dictionary; Worm is think-
ing of editing Magnus Olafsson’s dictionary but will wait and see
S. J.’s work. Mentions Brynjolfur Sveinsson’s manuscript-collection,
but has no connection with him, only sees his letters to Stephanius
now and then. Misses Icelandic students to help him in his studies.
2558 Utrasqve: Both these letters are now lost.
25513 pace: The peace with Sweden, see the note to p. 832\
25514"15 nam .. . sumus: < cum ... simus, but Worm has for-
gotten to correct simus.
149. W I 361 r; WE II 633-34.—Worm regrets that S. J. has
not yet got any office. Explains about Magnus Olafsson’s glossary
which only comprises rare and rather old words, but has nothing in
common with school-dictionaries. Makes a derogatory remark about
Jens Søfrensen.
25b4 literis: This letter is now lost.
25614 Nomenclatore Iunii: Nomenclator Hadriani Junii, 1567
and later editions. This book has been in use in the Icelandic schools
and is found translated into Icelandic in manuscripts (Rask 5,
IB 77 fol., Lbs. 2263, 8°), according to Hålfdan Einarsson (Scia-
graphia p. 35) by Ketill Jorundarson (1603-70).
25615 lanus Severini: Jens Søfrensen, see the note to p. m32.
Worm’s derogatory expressions about him are worth noticing, as he
so very rarely speaks critically of others. Cf. p. 15523 with note and
