Editiones Arnamagnæanæ. Series B - 01.10.1983, Page 31
XXIX
The numbering of the pages was done by Kr.
Kálund after 1881, cf. a statement by E. Kölbing in
Elis saga ok Rosamundu (Heilbronn, 1881), p. vm:
‘die einzelnen lagen sind ungeheftet in einer papp-
kapsel aufbewahrt. Sie sind nicht paginirt’, with the
following note: ‘Daraus erklárt sich warum man
Klockhoff nur die lagen leihweise nach Upsala ge-
schickt hat, welche die Partalopa saga enthalten’.
This led Klockhoff to state, in his edition of Partal. p.
x, that this was the only saga in AM 533.
Most of the MS is written in one hand (hand I) but
a second hand occurs at intervals (hand II). This
second hand has written the following passages of
Partal.: 49v = 5:30 Markavld - 5:36 skalt (facs. facing p.
xxxn) and 52v-53r = 5:249 ok mvntv - 5:282 menn,
together with the following passages of Elis saga:
79r21-23, 87vl4-88r, 97r21-23, 98r5-7, 15-23.
E. Kölbing’s statement, in his edition of Elis saga
(Heilbronn, 1881), p. viii, to the effect that a new
hand begins on the second folio of this saga (= f. 69
in the MS) is incorrect. The writing on f. 69 is,
indeed, larger than that on ff. 1-68, the ink is of a
different colour and there are 23 lines per page as
opposed to 22 lines earlier but there is hardly any
difference in the shapes of the letters and the system
of abbreviation employed would seem to be identical
(cf., however, the comments below on ec, oc).
The two scribal hands in AM 533 have not been
traced elsewhere. Kálund dates the MS to the begin-
ning of the 15th century (KálKatAM) but this is
probably at least 50 years too early.3 Hand II makes
consistent use of the abbreviations ec and oc, which

sidste del især i kataloger er blevet dat. 50-100 ár for tidligt.’
