vellum MS, Ormr Snorrason’s book (Ormsbók)2. Gö-
del reached this conclusion by comparing Jón Vigfús-
son’s transcripts with excerpts in Swedish lexicogra-
phical works from the 17th century, which refer to
Ormsbók as a source, occasionally even with indica-
tion of page and line. The works upon which Gödel
mainly relied were first and foremost Olaus Verelius’
Index Lingvæ Veteris Scytho-Scandicœ, published
posthumously in 1691 in Uppsala, together with
various unpublished works by Johannes Bureus
(Kungl. Bibl. F. a. 12-13).
Verelius’ Index provides a list of the contents of
Ormsbók: ‘Orms Snorrasons Book / Continet Troijo-
manna Saga. Anundar Jarls sona Saga & alia varia,
nempe Magus Jarls Saga / Lais Floretz / Berings /
Remundars / Eriks Jwenis / Bewis Myrmans Parha-
lops / Enohs & Partiwals Sagor’. The sagas in
Stockh. 58 and 47 which Gödel could prove with
certainty to have been copied from Ormsbók are
identical with the first five items on the list. They are
Trójumanna saga and Breta sogur (which are both
referred to under the designation T.M.S. in Index),
together with Mágus saga and its appurtenant þœttir
(the title ‘Anundar Jarls sona Saga’ covers part of
Mágus saga; ‘Lais’ refers most probably not only to
Laes þáttr but also to Vilhjálms þáttr Laessonar and
Geirarðs þáttr ok Vilhjálms Geirarðssonar, which are
also transcribed in Stockh. 583), Flóvents and Bæ-
rings sagas. Gödel did not find any quotations from
the remaining eight items, including Partal., in Index
