It is not possible to compare A5 with A4, since
these two MSS do not contain the same portions of
the saga.
A comparison between A5 and B1 would not be
worthwhile, since the part of the saga in B1 which is
also contained in A5, namely the conclusion, is very
different from the corresponding part in the A-MSS,
cf. pp. lxxxvii f.
A5 must either have been copied from A2 while this
MS was intact or from a now-lost MS. In either case
the readings from A5 are thus of interest. They are
printed as variants to the main text.
The *Ab-group.
To this group belong 7 MSS (or parts of MSS),
namely A3, A4 (as far as it goes), SÁM 6, ÍB 423, W
108, UB 1159 and Lbs. 272 (-e-the pages designated
A4). These share a number of innovations as against
A1-2, B1 (chapter references from both A1-2 and A3-4):
