AM 119a 8vo may be a direct transcript of A2.
R. I. Page, in his edition of Gibbons saga1, p. xxiv,
argued that this saga in AM 119 was not a direct
copy of Stockh. 7 but that there had been an
intermediate link between the two MSS. It is possible
that the same applies to Partal., although the surviv-
ing MSS do not necessitate the assumption of the
existence of such an intermediate link.
AM 119 contains all the characteristic variants in
A2 that have been mentioned above (pp. lxviii f.) with
the exception of 5:190. At this point the original text
(which, as far as it is possible to see, was identical
with that in A2) has been erased, probably out of
feelings of delicacy, and replaced by the following,
only partly legible text: ‘(enn hun la epter) Blomleg og
fRyd og næs<t>a mic (= miog) oodeileg’.
There are also several instances where a variant in
AM 119 can be explained as a misreading of the
graphical picture in A2. This is the case, for example,
with 4:34 ‘tortisar’, which is written ‘to2tí|sr’ (at
line-division) in A2 and represented in 119 as ‘t°n so’.
Items 2-15 in the list above would all seem to
derive from AM 119. This view is based i.a. on the
fact that they all follow A5 in having the name-form
Rikefor (or similar) 9:69 and that their variants at
4:34 and 5:190 can be explained as attempts at inter-
pretation of the incomprehensible text in AM 119:
