standing. He rode out of the city, so that no one knew about
his trip except the girl. Everything turned out with his 198
trip as before, until he came to Constantinople. The first
night when he got into bed, then his sweetheart was there,
and they talked together. She told him that she had taken 201
him from t.he knights and likewise from the girl, “but it
will turn out nevertheless that your father will be more
cunning than you.” 204

the girl, there came over him such a great weakness that
he could not move at all. Then Marmoria came to mind
and also everything that she had told him before. He saw
now that his father was luring him then away from his
intention.
He got dressed now quickly, and she was then left lying
very sorrowful. He went out now and saw where his horse
was and now got on it, the horse, and rode out of the city
so that no one knew where he was going. Everything now
turned out with his trip as before, until he came to Con-
stantinople. The first night when he got into bed, then his
sweetheart was already there, and they talked then about
a great many things. She asked him now about a great
deal of news, and he told her such things as then had hap-
pened and also in addition what conditions [matches ?]
King Hlodver, his father, had made for him. Also he told
her then about all those deceptions which had then been
practiced upon him. When he had now finished his tale,
then she spoke to him: “Whatever they choose or now do
about this matter sooner or later, then that will happen
that they will become cunning in their plans. But to tell
you the truth, then I was there, although you did not see
me.” Now they, Partalopi and Princess Marmoria, broke
off their talk.
