sword will cut, and an all gilt helmet”—and got him this
armor—“and that sword which cuts iron just like cloth.” 150
She loosened the bonds from him and also the fetters from
his feet and clothed him in armor after that. She got him
an excellent horse and spoke: “I wish to ask you to tell me 153
where you intend to ride.” He answered: “To the turna-
ment in Constantinople.” She spoke: “By your chivalrous
way—[do this] that you promise me to come here before 156
the master of the house.” Partalopi spoke: “That I am
willing to promise you, that you shall never get rebuke be-
