It was decided that furniture and interior fittings should be designed and made in lceland. Office furni- ture, shelves and cupboards sport a teak veneer whilst table legs and shelve supports are made of stain- less steel. The same applies to fur- niture and interiors on the reception floor, where the dining and other furnitures are in the same style. On the roof are timber pallets and sun canopies, which act as protection against the sun on warm days. Timber pots for trees are also meant to create a cosy and warm atmosphere. The concept is to apply lcelandic design more in lcelandic embassies abroad than has been the case until now, with the exception of the newly-built Embassy of lceland in Berlin. In Scandinavia, it has for a long time been an accepted policy to reflect the uniqueness of each country in the design of embassy accommodation and act as a showcase of national design both with regard to architecture, furni- ture- and industrial design. Iceland is now following in this pos- itive direction. ■ 7 S m í ð i 1 V i ð q Þ i ó n u s t a | Heildarlausnir 1 \ * Ffá hugmynd ðð fullunnu verki = HÉÐINN = Stórás 6 • IS-210 Garðabæ Sími: 569 2100* Fax: 569 2101» www.hedinn.is 27
