Greinin er í fyrsta lagi ein greining av sjónleikinum
Álvaleikur eftir Hans Andrias Djurhuus og í øðrum lagi
eitt stutt yvirlit yvir romantikkin í føroyskum bókment-
um.
Álvaleikur er eitt ævintýrspæl, sum fer fram í tveim-
um fláum: álvafólkið “skrivar” leikritið, sum menniskj-
uni koma at spæla, uttan at tey eru vitandi um, at tey
verða stýrd. Leikurin setir tvær verðir yvir av hvørji aðr-
ari: onnur umboðar samljóð við alheimin, hin ta fremm-
andgjørdu materialismu. I greiningini er høvuðsdenturin
lagdur á persónssamansetingina og persónslýsingina.
Niðurstøðan er, at leikurin umboðar tað rákið, sum
nevnist Organismuhugsanin.
I stórum ber til at siga, at romantikkurin í føroyskum
bókmentum byrjar fyrst í 1800-talinum og heldur fram
til uml. 2. heimsbardaga. Alvaleikur (1930) er ein rætti-
liga seinur tekstur, tá ið tað ræður um romantikk í euro-
peiskum bókmentum. Men at menningarstigið ymsa-
staðni í tí føroyska samfelagnum um fyrra aldaskiftið og
væl inn í 20. øld hevur verið so ymiskt, frá miðøld til
ídnaðarsamfelag, ger, at einki løgið er í, at bókmentalig
rák sum romantikkur, realisma, naturalisma og modern-
isma finnast lið um lið.
Abstract
The article analyses the play, Álvaleikur, written by the
Faroese poet and author, Hans Andrias Djurhuus, and
also presents a short review of romanticism in Faroese
literature.
Álvaleikur is a fairy tale play that takes place on two
levels: people act in a “play” written by the elves
without knowing that they are being “directed” by the
elves. The play sets two worlds against one another:
one representing harmony with the universe, the other
alienating materialism. The article chiefly discusses the
constellation of characters and their defining qualities.
The play is deemed to be consistent with or represent a
“world-consciousness” perspective, as articulated by
Age Henriksen.
Essentially, Faroese romanticism covers a period
dating from the early 19lh century until the Second
World War. Compared to European romanticism, Alva-
leikur (1930) is a fairly late work. One must bear in
mind, however, that the economic reality within the
Faroese community during the 20th century ranged from
the primitive agrarianism of the Middle Ages to com-
plex industrialism. It is, therefore, no wonder that Faro-
ese literary currents such as romanticism, realism, natur-
alism, and modemism could be found side by side.
