NordForsk is an organisation under the Nordic Council of Ministers that provides funding for Nordic research cooperation as well as advice and input on Nordic research policy. NordForsk works to enhance added
value to existing research activities in the ve Nordic countries, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland, as well as the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the Aaland Islands, thereby
strengthening the position and in uence of Nordic research, both in Europe and globally. NordForsk’s secretariat is located in central Oslo. For further information, please see www.nordforsk.org.
NordForsk is now seeking to appoint an:
Administrative Coordinator/PA
Adviser with a focus on administration
Senior Adviser
The Administrative Coordinator will cooperate closely with the Director of NordForsk on tasks
such as coordination and follow-up of internal and external activities and events, and will be
responsible for ensuring that plans and activities are organised and carried out effi ciently. The
Administrative Coordinator will serve as a link between partners and colleagues with regard to
practical planning and follow-up of activities, and must be able to solve problems and fi nd good
solutions when unforeseen events arise. Candidates for the position must be able to take the
initiative in administrative issues and provide support in matters at all levels.
The candidate must have extensive administrative experience and well developed skills in
planning and carrying out a variety of projects and events. Experience with research, research
administration or contact with authorities, preferably within an international environment, is
an advantage. Good IT skills are also required. The candidate must work well independently
as well as in a team, have excellent cooperative skills, and ability to work well in a high-paced
environment. The candidate must also have a good command of English (both written and
spoken) and fl uency in one of the Scandinavian languages. The ideal candidate is a good
planner who is structured, outgoing, adept at communicating at all levels and with all types of
people, fl exible and solution-oriented, with substantial work capacity.
The candidate’s main areas of responsibility will be designing and undertaking administrative
follow-up activities linked to NordForsk’s various funding schemes. Another important task will
be the further development of NordForsk’s administrative systems and routines in connection
with grant application processing and contract follow-up, including the NordForsk
Application Portal. There will also be some tasks related to personnel administration.
Additional tasks within the NordForsk administration may also be assigned.
The candidate must have a higher education degree, extensive competence in the use of IT tools
and relevant experience from a similar position. The candidate must work well independently
as a well as in a team, have excellent cooperative skills and the ability to work well in a high-
paced environment. Candidates must also have a good command of English (both written and
spoken) and fl uency in one of the Scandinavian languages.
The Senior Advisor will contribute to the implementation of NordForsk’s strategy for the 2011-
2014 period. The main areas of responsibility will be analysis, advisory activities and research
funding, but might also include other aspects of NordForsk’s activities. The position involves
maintaining contact with the Nordic Council of Ministers, political bodies in the Nordic countries
and the autonomous areas, national research councils, universities, and other actors within the
research systems in the Nordic countries, in the EU and outside of Europe.
The candidate must have a higher education degree, preferably a Ph.D., and extensive
experience in research administration and policy design as well as analysis. The candidate
should have a thorough understanding of systems and processes, and experience working in
institutions that address issues relating to research and/or research policy. Relevant
occupational experience includes employment at research councils, government ministries,
universities or international organisations.
The candidate must work well independently as well as in a team, have excellent cooperative
skills, and ability to work well in a high-paced environment. The candidate must also have a
good command of English (both written and spoken) and fl uency in one of the Scandinavian
languages.
The positions entails a wide variety of interesting tasks within a dynamic organisation based in an international environment. The contract is for four years, with the possibility of extension for an
additional four years. Civil servants in the Nordic countries are entitled to leave of absence in order to work for organisations under the Nordic Council of Ministers. Employees who have to relocate for
such a position are entitled to relocation compensation. Salary to be agreed. NordForsk strives to ensure a good balance in the gender and age distribution among its employees.
