Sunday School Teachers’ Rally
By Josephine S. Olafsson
The fourth annual Sunday School Teachers’ Rally of the
Evangelical Icelandic Lutheran Synod of North America was held
at the Sunrise Lutheran Camp, July l-3rd, 1949. Thirty-two were
registered and represented the Sunday Schools of Lundar, Gimli,
Baldur, Bru, Glenboro, Grund, Selkirk and Winnipeg.
The purpose of the Rally is to bring Sunday School teachers
together as a group, to talk over common problems and to try,
jointly, to find a solution; to think of themselves as members of a
group that is working in all parts of the world, rather than as
isolated workers in a small community. Sunday School work is
an accepted and necessary part of our Lutheran Church work.
Every community is faced with the problem of providing religious
education for its young and growing members. The Sunday School
is the logical answer, and much, of course, depends on its teachers.
Many of these are young people—the oldest ones attending the
Sunday School become its teachers when vacancies occur. The
Lutheran Women’s League is prepared to help these young people
with its “Leadership Training” course at Sunrise Camp. This
course gives them religious instruction as well as training in
leadership. In addition we have the Rally—where Sunday School
teachers can meet briefly to hear informative talks to help them
