Ársrit Bandalags lúterskra kvenna 83 Report of the Sunday School Committee Another year has gone by, a year of fresh efforts made to further the work of Lutheran Women’s League in the Sunday School Field. We, the committee appointed last year to further this work as much as possible, agreed, that in order to obtain the best results, we should continue our personal contact with our people in the Interlake district. We also felt that more time was needed than we have been giving ourselves in this work and determined to spend as much time as possible in contacting the majority of our people from Silver Bay to Vogar. We were unfortunate in that one of the committee Mrs. S. Sigurgeirson was unable to take part in this enterprise, necessitating that Mrs. S. Skaptason and myself carry on the work as far as possible. On learning that Dr. R. Marteinsson would preach in Vogar on September 26th, we thought it a brilliant idea to have our visit co-incide with his and we made a happy foursome as Mrs. Marteinson accompanied us. We left Winnipeg September 23rd, returning Monday September 27th, giving us a good four days in which to accomplish our visiting. We visited over 30 homes, contacted around a 100 people. The people as on previous visits were very kind to us and we felt that they truly desired Christian teaching for their children, the problem being how to work towards this goal. All parents agreed that Sunday School on Sundays was impossible, that Christian teaching in the schools with the permission of the trustees was the only solution. The connnittee visited the trustees in five school districts, obtaining their permission to give religious teaching for the hour of three to four on Friday aftenioon. We approached four school teachers about teaching, all kindly consented to give the necessary religious instructions. One school had not procured a teacher, but we felt with the assistance of a former worker the Sunday School work would be carried on. This project appeared to be entirely successful and we felt very elated. Our elation however was short lived for difficulties arose in several of the districts. Yet in spite of our disappointment we have a feeling all is well. The Lord provides help when it is needed — and now Rev. S. Sigurgeirson
