every year, as it is getting more completely equipped as time goes
on. It was discussed under three headings:
(a) Finances — Some of the societies hold one affair a
year in aid of the camp. The Children’s Trust Fund is growing —
balance on hand, June 1, 1949, being $378.28. Anyone knowing of
a child who requires financial aid in order to attend camp, is
requested to notify the Board of Directors.
The Memorial Fund showed as balance on hand, $253.39, while
the general camp fund stood at, $752.25.
(b) Library — Books, particularly suitable for children
and young people, are required. Either books, or money towards
books, will be accepted by any member of the library committee,
whose members for this coming year are, Mrs. Margaret Scribner,
Gimli; Mrs. Sigthora Tomasson, Hecla, and Mrs. Ingunn Fjeldsted,
Arborg.
(c) New Ideas — A new idea was presented by Mrs.
Henrickson, an idea gained at Camp Nawakwa, namely that of
selling camp souvenirs, such as pennants, head-bands and buttons.
The idea was adopted and a committee chosen to put it into effect.
The camp colors chosen, were sky blue and light yellow. The
souvenirs are being sold at camp this summer, in aid of its fund.
A beautiful pulpit was donated to the Memorial Hall, in
memory of the late Gunnlaugur Johannsson, of Winnipeg, by his
widow, Rosa, daughter Gudrun and son Harold.
(5.) Handicraft Exhibit — This feature of our convention
proved as successful as ever, revealing versatility among our
people in such work. Two male exhibitors deserve special mention,
Dr. F. E. Scribner, Gimli and Cpl. A. Sorensen, Langruth, for fine
handwork. The annual name-quilt, this year made by Mrs. G. A.
Erlendson, received widespread praise, particular mention being
made of the picture of Sunrise Camp, painted in the centre, by
Miss Josephine Olafsson. The quilt now hangs as a panel in the
Memorial Hall. The 1949 quilt will be made by Mrs. S. Bjerring.
Serving on the handicraft committee for next year will be, Mrs.
Soffia Wathne, Winnipeg, Mrs. Valgerdur Hallgrimsson, Cypress
River, and Mrs. J. Hannesson, Langruth.
(6) Temperance — Mrs. Margret Bardal gave a report on
the work being done by the Manitoba Temperance Alliance. Mrs.
Bardal has always exerted herself greatly for the temperance cause
and has faithfully, year after year, interpreted its significance at
