our conventions. She was re-elected representative on the M.T.A.
executive and the sum of $25.00 was voted to their funds.
(7) English or Icelandic at Conventions? — After much
deliberation, a resolution was passed as follows: “That no change
be made in the language at the present time, except that the
minutes be written in the English, on condition that a resumé of
minutes be also given in Icelandic if requested” — This means that
the convention will be conducted in Icelandic, but that either
language may be used by those participating in discussion or
presenting reports. We must use the Icelandic in order to hold those
staunch and faithful members who are fluent in that language.
We must use some English, increasingly as time goes on, in order
to attract new and younger members, who must carry on the torch
when the others pass it on!
(8) Memorial to Gudrun Johnson — lt was unanimously
agreed upon to place a biblical picture, with a suitably engraved
brass plate, in the Memorial Hall at Sunrise Camp, to honor the
memory of the great service rendered to the Lutheran Women’s
League by the late Gudrun (Mrs. Finnur) Johnson.
(9) Program — The Langruth delegates were entrusted
with preparing a program guide for this coming year, for the use
of those societies which desire it.
