SUMMARY
Fortytwo total hip replacements in 37 patients by a
visiting orthopaedic consultant in the Faroe Islands
during the period 1976-1983. Thirtyseven patients were
interviewed and examined, one having died two years
after operation of unrelated causes. Observation time
was 14 to 98 months, with an average of 40 months. Six
patients with local and systemic complications had
recovered one year postoperatively. 70% described their
postoperative condition as asymptomatic, 30% as better
than before operation.
