Um höfundinn Helga Dögg (f. 1984) lauk B.Sc.-prófi í efnafræði frá Háskóla Íslands árið 2006 og stundar nú doktors- nám í eðlisefnafræði við sama skóla, undir leiðsögn prófessors Odds Ingólfssonar. Doktorsverkefnið fjallar um niðurbrot lífsameinda vegna geislunar. Í náminu hefur hún einnig unnið að rannsóknum með prófessor Eugen Illenberger við Freie Universität í Berlín og prófessor Paul Scheier við Leopold-Franzens-Universität í Innsbruck.
