In compiling this work, Statistics lceland has benefited

Definitions of terms
Admission to films and theatres refers to total number of
tickets sold and complimentary tickets.
Advertising revenue. Advertising revenue of the media is
either measured as rate-card data or as survey data. The
former method takes no account of discounts, while the latter
refers to net advertising revenue.
Book. Non-serial printed document having 49 pages or
more. Cf Icelandic National Bibliography.
Booklet. Non-serial printed document having 5-48 pages.

Capital region. The capital, Reykjavík, and the surround-
ing municipalities of Bessastaðahreppur, Garðabær, Hafnar-
Qörður, Kópavogur, Kjalameshreppur, Mosfellsbær and
Seltjamames.
Daily paper. Newspaper issued 4 times or more a week.

Full-length feature film. Film (usually 35 mm) with a
duration of 60 minutes or more. Full-length animated films

Gross Box Office. Total revenue l'rom cinematicket sales
including VAT and other taxes.
Internet. The name Intemet alludes to the interconnection
of computer networks and the creation of gateways to them,
covering most countries of the world.
Internet connection. Computer or other devices con-
nected to the Intemet. An Intemet address, or IP, is assigned
to each device connected to the network. —> Intemet
Internet domain. A domain name that has name server
records associated with it. Intemet domains can only be
allocated to institutions, associations and registered firms.
INTIS is the Intemet domain provider in Iceland (i.e. provid-
ing addresses ending with .is).
ISIC classification. Intemational classification of eco-
nomic activities of the United Nations (International Stand-
ard Classification of all economic activities).
ISATclassification. The Icelandic version of the statisti-
cal classification of economic activities in the European
Community and the European Economic Area, NACE, Rev.
1 (Nomenclatare générale des Activitées économique dans

Literary works. Works of literature (poetry, plays, nov-
els, short stories, essays, etc.) as classified according to the
Dewey Decimal Classification with the numbers 800.1-
