Summary
Walking the drift: Archaeology of Anthropocene
The Anthropocene (Icel. mannöld), a new geological age/epoch following the
Holocene, was first introduced by chemist Paul J. Crutzen and ecologist Eugene
F. Stoermer in the early 2000s. Their intention was to conceptualize the current
global climate condition, which, following the industrialization and further
acceleration of industrial development, no longer fitted within the parameters of
the Holocene (Crutzen and Stoermer 2000; Crutzen 2002). Humankind, they
