It is possible that Fr2 is the very MS from which A and a were copied,
but there are a few cases where they have the same reading, which differs
slightly from that of Fr2, e.g. on p. 47516 Turpin says that he is going to
lead the water from the river

Since the word allan is found in all MSS except Fr2, it probably belonged
to the original saga (S and D have shortened the text here), and in any
case, it is unlikely that both A and a would have added the word in this
place if they did not find it in their common source. There are some other
cases where A and a agree against Fr2, without, however, having a defi-
nitely better reading. Therefore, A and a may be derived from Fr2 through
another MS, or Fr2 may be a sister MS of the copy of the saga which
was used by the scribes of A and a. On the whole I prefer the latter
solution.
B and b differ from each other only in unimportant details, most of
them of a type frequently found in Icelandic MSS. There is hardly more
than one link between each of them and their common source. As has been
pointed out above, Fr3 has the same reading as Bb in one important case,
but since the Bb version is here the correct one, this does not necessarily
mean that Fr3 belongs to the Bb version. But there are other places in
which Fr3 has an abridged version of the text which corresponds to that
found in Bb. Thus, the description of the road to Jerusalem is the same
in Bb and Fr3:
