Kms follows CV7 in so far as it has Charlemagne’s message at the be-
ginning of this episode, but in the saga there are none of the repetitions
of the CV7 version, the dropping of the letter, the breaking of the bow,
and the dropping of the glove, with the threats against Roland and the
peers. The saga nevertheless differs from O in one respect: Ganeion drops
the letter, not the glove. The passage which, in Kms, follows the message
agrees partly with O, partly with C vv. 455-59 and 462-67:

Then follows a correct rendering of O vv. 337-39. Since the letter has
already been handed over, v. 341 is omitted in Kms too.
The difference between Kms and O in this laisse is slight, and is partly
due to the translator: thus, when the letter is mentioned twice in the saga
version, it should be noted that in the translation of v. 333 the expression
vid taca brefinu corresponds to le prendre in O (and CF7), and the second
time, the word riticf occurs in a line which may well be a “saga” addition
(explanatory: O c er G. j. laut nidr oc tok up ritid). The expression fyr
allt vceralldar guli in the Kms version of v. 332 may be a free translation,
but it may equally well be based on a slightly expanded French version,
cp. O v. 457-58:
Jo ne lerreie, por tut l’or que Deus fist
Ne por tut l’aveir ki seit en cest pa'is.
Other additions which are likely to be based on French verses now lost
are the laughter of the peers and Ganelon’s words Gup hcefni pceim etc.
Parallels to these additions are to be found in CV7, but in dif ferent places.
