Hydrography in April 1995 and 1999
In mid-April 1995, the temperature on the
shelf and slope was around 6.5°C. It
ranged between 5.9°C and 7.2°C, with the
lowest temperature at the shallowest sta-
tions and the highest temperature offshore,
to the west of the Faroes. In late April
1999, the temperature hovered mostly at
7.0°C, ranging between 6.4 and 7.8°C. As
a result of precipitation and shallow bottom
depths, the shelf water has a slightly lower
salinity than the surrounding oceanic water.
An approximate position of the tidal front
can be determined by this variance in the
salinity gradient. The station grid covered
