STUNDIN 36 Ambulance Driver Heads East Army Disowns His King Grinning cheerfully is Erwin Watts, son of the late New York brnker, now a volunteer ambulance driver with the American field service in France. He is packing his kit to re- turn to the front after a session in the hospital. He was wounded while saving a woman ar.d two children from a shelled house. Gen. Eugene Mittlehauser of France has taken command of the Allied armies in the Near East, succeeding General Maxime Weygand, now Al- lied Generalissimo. Gen. Mittle- hauser headed the French expedi- tionary force in Norway. Declaring King Leopold violated the constitution by surrendering to the Nazi invaders, Belgian Premier Hu- bert Pierlot declared his cabinet in Paris was taking over the king’s powers.
