Ársrit Bandalags lúterskra kvenna 81 An Alliance delegation, meeting with the Cabinet charged that Villages within Municipalities voting against the “Wet Option” were obtaining beer parlor licenses through Incorporation It claimed this was disfranchising voters in “dry” rural municipalities. Out of 17 Municipal votes held under the Local Option By-Law during the past 3 years, only two voted for sale of liquor. Soon after the votes. “certain strategic Villages in ‘dry’ areas applied for incorporation”, claimed the delegation. The Delegation maintained that “immediately upon incorpora- tion, an agitation was started in each of the Villages for a Hotel with forthcoming powers for establishing such a hotel if assurance of a beer parlor could be obtained in advance.” Among other Recommendations by the Alliance were: That the Manitoba Liquor Commission require definite proof of age from young persons applying for liquor permits. Closer censorship of Motion Pictures, to eliminate “much of the persistent, needless and inexcusable intrusion of drinking shown on the screen.” The establishment of a central clinic for Medical and Psychiatric treatment for Alcoholics. This to be established in co-operation with volunteer agencies. 1 feel 1 should give you a part of the lecture delivered in the Grace Lfnited Church, Winnipeg, a short time ago by Dr. Meckenburg. He strongly condemns moderate drinking. He challenged all Ministers and Christian people to unite in an all-out war against moderation, which he termed a SIN, and the cause of half of the Nation’s CRIME. Dr. Meckenburg said: “Alcoholism is a top ranking disease and the only disease in the United States where the Government co-operates' in spreading the germ. Magazines are filled with advertisements which glorify alcohol. Medical men say alcoholic patients are the worst type, because they do not want to get well.
