Kees Visser, Þór Vigfússon
and ÍVar Valgarðsson
A collaboration by Icelandic artists Þór Vigfússon, Ívar Valgarðsson and their
friend from Holland, Kees Visser. Þór and Ívar were classmates in the Icelan-
dic Academy of the Arts back in the seventies. Visser first visited Iceland in
1976 and has been living here on and off ever since. The artists use different
approaches in their works, but all work with abstract forms where colours,
forms and fabrics collide with space. Visser presents 64 paintings from various
collections that are painted directly on the walls of the gallery. Þór is fasci-
nated by the effect of painting on the backsides of pieces of glass, thus ap-
plying the glossy texture of the glass to bring the viewer into the pieces. Ívar
mainly focuses on using construction materials in his works. Here he presents
the sunlight as it reflects of a white painted piece of wood in the nature.

fish draMa – ólafur gÍslason
This is Ólafur’s second exhibition at i8 gallery. His previous exhibition,
Divide and Share, was highly acclaimed back in 1998. This new exhibition
consists of drawings, a sculpture and a video piece. The video is based on an
interview that the artists did with Kristján Hjaltason, president of Icelandic
France SA in France, owned by Icelandic company Icelandic Group. The
main focus of the interview is on issues regarding fishing and the interna-
tional market for fish, which has for centuries been Iceland’s main industry
and the support of the Icelandic economy.
