Deaths from tuberculosis mav be classified as follows (last year’s
figures in round brackets): Pulmonai’y tuberculosis 33 (54), universal
tuberculosis 0 (2), tuberculosis of boixes and joints 1 (2), meningeal
tuberculosis 11 (9), abdominal tuberculosis 1 (2), tuberculosis of the
urinary and generative organs 0 (2), tuberculosis of the lymphatic
glands 1 (0).
During the last txvo decades death from tuberculosis in Iceland
has been almost steadily decreasing, yet, with a relative stillstand
during the war, and this last year the fall of the tuberculosis death
rate is truly adventurous. In 1930 232 died from tubcrculosis in Iceland
(2,2 per 1000 of the population) 1939: 94 (0,8%c), 1945: 88 (0,7%„),
1947: 71 (0,5%c), 1948: 47 (0,3%,).
7. Leprosy. The number of patients has been almost constantly
decreasing in previous years.

These figures are based upon monthly reports from physicians, but
in the annual report on the disease, which comprises all medical
districts in this country, 23 cases are reported, most of them very old
people, perhaps only with some or other remains of the disease.

In addition to the monthly reports from district medical officers,
on which the above survey is based, medical officers in all districts
have made out a list showing the incidence of malignant tumors
during the year. According to these tables tliere are 297 such patients
(tumors of the brain and lymphogranulomatosis included). On pages
70—71 these malignant tumors are classified according to location.
