Theory. The research methods are qualitative and include
face-to-face interviews with nine employees in five public
libraries in the Greater Reykjavík Area. The results show that
respect and trust between colleagues and supervisors is the
most important factor in job satisfaction and well-being in
the work place. Other factors, such as motivation, initiative,
encouragement, responsibility, support, acknowledgement
and understanding from colleagues and supervisors, good
information flow, good access to supervisors, a sense of ease
and cooperation with other libraries also have a substantial
effect on how participants feel at work in their public library.
