data presented below.
The radiocarbon datings were carried out in the
Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory at Lund University,
Sweden. In the discussion below, conventional
radiocarbon years are used. The dates are corrected
for 13C/12C fractionation and apparent age of living
marine organisms unless otherwise noted. Tables I
and II give radiocarbon values as reported by the
dating laboratories, and corrected values if the
above corrections have been made.
STRATIGRAPHY
In the description of the stratigraphy below, the
sample localities and sample numbers are used as
headings. Location of all the samples is shown on
Fig. 1, and the radiocarbon dates are given in Table
II. Geological time scale is shown in Table III.
MINNAHOF — BÚÐABERG (Lu-2404)
The type site for the Búði Stadial in Iceland is on
the northem banks of the Þjórsá river at Búðaberg,
close to the Búði waterfall (Fig. 1). There the river
has eroded a channel through the moraines, provid-
ing good exposures. The section is at approximately
65 m a.s.l. and transects a moraine ridge. In a classi-
cal work by Kjartansson (1943) a diagrammatic
profile section at this locality is described (Fig. 2).
Our profile section (Fig. 3) is from the same local-
ity, extending from the riverbend south of the
Minnahof farm some 1750 m to the Búði waterfall.
The sedimentary strata rests on striated pillow
lava, indicating glacier flow from ENE. It is exposed
at the water level of Þjórsá some 50 m downstream
of the riverbend. We have projected the pillow lava
outcrop into the profile section in Fig. 3 (unit A).
