at Roland anses at være for ung til at kæmpe og derfor sættes under
bevogtning, men bryder ud for at deltage i kampen. Dette træk findes ikke i
Kms eller KMK, men nok i begyndelsen af den franske Aspr, jfr. resumeet
ovenfor. Visedigteren kan næppe have det fra andre kilder end den norrøne
oversættelse, der derfor må have indeholdt også begyndelsen. Det trin i
overleveringen af den norrøne oversættelse som visen eller dennes forlæg er
udgået fra, ligger således forud for arketypen for de bevarede versioner af
Kms og KMK.
Den manglende slutning finder v. Waard s. 215 (fulgt af Foote s. 46) en
hentydning til i Kms 369.36-38. Det er ikke rigtigt: disse linjer gengiver
slutningen af W 505. - Den manglende begyndelse er der flere hentydnin-
ger til (v. Waard s. 192-193). Disse hentydninger er ikke indsat af
oversætteren (det er v. Waard s. 193 tilbøjelig til at mene om Kms 309.17
ff.; men disse detaljer står i W 298 = R 311 i BN 1598 og har sikkert også
stået i oversætterens forlæg, hvad v. Waard da heller ikke udelukker). Men
de er blevet stående, skønt det de hentyder til mangler. Man kan
vanskeligere tænke sig dem bibeholdt af en oversætter der selv havde
udeladt det de hentydede til, end af en redaktør der blot stillede to
foreliggende oversættelser sammen (jfr. Foote s. 46). Dette argument er
ikke tvingende.
Det andet argument for at mene at Aspr-oversættelsen har været
fuldstændig (og dermed udført uafhængigt af Kms), er dens inddeling i
"bøger". Men diskussionen af dette argument forudsætter en undersøgelse
af bladombytningerne.
2. Bladombytningerne
Rækkefølgen af beretningens elementer i Kms følger originalen for PT's
vedkommende, men ikke for alle dele af Aspr, sådan som denne er udgivet
af Brandin efter ms. W.
Nogle af disse uoverensstemmelser i rækkefølge kan tænkes at skyldes,
at oversætterens forlæg afveg fra det håndskrift Brandin har udgivet, en
mulighed der lettest kan undersøges ved hjælp af de konkordans-tabeller
der er offentliggjort af Roepke og v. Waard. Dette gælder faktisk forskellen
i rækkefølge mellem Kms 351-363 og Brandins Aspr-udg. laisses 437-479,
da den samme rækkefølge sdm i Kms findes i flere af de franske
håndskrifter, i hvert fald i tre: Paris, B.N. f.fr. 25529 (jfr. Brandins udg. II s.
181), Paris, B.N. f.fr. 1598, og London, Brit.Mus., Lansdowne 782. Denne
