Imod den her opstillede hypotese kan der anføres tre argumenter: den
forudsætter, at læggene i hs. q = r har haft meget forskellige antal blade,
og at ikke blot læggene men også bladene i disse(s første halvdel) har
båret numre, samt at bladombytningerne er sket i to håndskrifter. Det er
muligt, at "bog"-angivelserne ikke stammer fra læg- og blad-skifter, og i
så fald kan bladombytningerne være sket i et og samme håndskrift, hvis
læg alle kan have bestået af 6 blade, sådan som angivet ovenfor i
slutningen af afsnit 2. Men i så fald har de enkelte blade øjensynlig haft
forskellige tekstmasser, og i så fald henstår “bog"-angivelserne uden
forklaring.
Det er i alle tilfælde sandsynligt, at det eller de håndskrifter som
bladombytningerne er sket i var norrøne, ikke franske (anglo-
normanniske), fordi oversætteren ellers utvivlsomt ville have søgt at bøde
på forvirringen, ligesom redaktørerne af den islandske Bb-version og af
den danske KMK senere har gjort det. Det vil derfor ikke blot være
muligt men også berettiget at lave en udgave af Aspr-oversættelsen der
bygger på håndskrifterne a og A (af hvilke a har den oprindelige tekst på e
flere punkter end A), men med tekstens dele flyttet tilbage i deres
oprindelige rækkefølge, og med de manglende dele erstattet med
resumeer efter den oldfranske tekst. Resultatet vil blive en tekst, der giver
et rigtigere billede af oversættelsen end Ungers Aa-tekst, og som tillige er
logisk og sammenhængende og mindst lige så læselig som den
mangelfuldt udbedrede version i B og b, der ligger til grund for Ungers
danske resumé (s. LXIV-LXXV) og sættes foran Aa-versionen i hans
udgave, og som også er foretrukket af Bjarni Vilhjålmsson i hans optryk
af Kms (Reykjavik 1950) og af Constance B. Hieatt i hendes engelske
oversættelse (Toronto 1975).
