ds son med e.h.”, in a different and later hånd. Written upside down in
the bottom margin verso are two lines in a third hånd; these lines are
a version of the first verse of Proverbs 12:2

2.1. The source of this “History of the Ptolemies” may now be
identified as Luther’s Preface to the book of Daniel.4 The relevant
passage, as it appeared in Luther’s High German Bible of 1545, reads
(passages corresponding to the AM 696 fragment are italicized):
