Ásrún Kristjánsdóttir, Designer Personal Style in an International Environment Ásrún Kristjánsdóttir, interview with Steinunn Sigurðardóttir My name is Steinunn Sigurðdardóttir. I am a dress designer and have studied and worked abroad for the last 20 years. Dress design is young in lceland and I am going to try to explain, in words and pictures, my personal style, which has been created in an international environment resulting from lcelandic influences. Dress design is made up of many threads. One of these has to do with materials, textures and colours. I will show some of my designs from the last 10-12 years and try to explain how they are connected to my origins, and how the nature of the country is an endless fountain of new ideas. The individual develops a personal sense of beauty from the objects surrounding him or her and is always influenced by this environment. Iceland is no exception. To grow up in lceland gives one something special lceland offers textures in Nature that are exceptional because of its very special landscape. The texture of stones, lava, hot springs, mountains, fjords and snow is something that can be traced through my design. There are plenty of stones in lceland and it is possible to discover many patterns and textures there. These textures are also to be found in knitted patterns that have been featured in foreign fashion magazines for Calvin Klein. Lava is a type of mineral and has had great influence on my design and personal style.
