tions built on intuitive interpretation of historic premises is
„Hjálmaklettur" (historic seat of Egill Skallagrímsson in
Borgarnes), where the ideology comes from The Saga of Egill.
The building symbolises the blade of the axe hewn into the
rock and cantilevering out 15 metres. „The Turn of the Century
House" is built on a combination of the style of the „long
house" (plan interpretation from 1200) and the private house
style of the 60's and the 70's of course translated into a mod-
ern building style. Finally, the Norsk Fjordsenter in Geiranger
can be mentioned where the main motive for the building is a
spear (geir) that the architect threw towards the fjord similar to
Ingólfur Arnarson throwing his throne-columns into the sea and
settling in lceland where they drifted ashore. ■
