The Resistance of Potatos to Hederdera rostochiensis Woll
by Einar í. Siggeirsson
The Secondary Grammar School, Rcltarholt, Reykjavík.
In the year 1953, Helerodera rostochiensis Woll. was for the first time
reported to be found in Iceland. Since then H. rostochiensis have been found
in several locations in South, Southwest and North Iceland. There are heavy
potato crop losses of the disease in the country, and no resistant varieties
available for cultivation.
The Peruvian tuberbearing species Solanum andigenum is resistant to H.
rostochiensis and was crossed to S. tuberosum, a commerical variety susceptible
to H. rostochiensis. The Fj progenies obtained were of following genotypes:
Quadruplex crossed with a nulliplex variety (a susceptible varicty) gives all
resistant progenies.
Triplex crossecl with a nulliplex variety gives all resistant progenies.
Duplex crossed with a nulliplex variety gives \/ resistant progenies.
Simplex crossed with a nulliplex variety gives \/2 resistant progenies and
i/2 susceptible progenies.
At the present time tliere are four resistant clons available.
