I have come here as a representative of the Prague Techni-
cal University, and on behalf of its Rector and I am very happy
to bring you the most sincere and cordial wishes to the 50th
anniversary of the foundation of your University. It is a great
honour for us to be invited to this ceremony and we were
very pleased to get more closely aoquainted with the life and
with the history of the people in your country.
We hope that the relations of our nations will further deve-
lop in the peaceful co-operation as it fully corresponds to the
traditions of our two nations.
I beg to allow me to read before you the official address
which teachers and students of the Prague Technical University
are sending to the University of Iceland.
The Technical University of Prague, Holder of the Order of
the Republic, congratulates the University of Iceland on its
50th Anniversary and wishes it every success in the field of
science in the cause of peace and well-being of all mankind.

Die in der Westdeutschen Rektorenkonferenz zusammenge-
schlossenen Universitaten und Hochschulen der Bundesrepublik
Deutschland entbieten in herzlicher Verbundenheit der Uni-
versitat Islands zur Feier ihres fiinfzigjahrigen Bestehens ihre
Griisse und wiinschen der Jubilaumsveranstaltung einen fest-
lichen und glansvollen Verlauf.
Die deutschen Gelehrten erinnern sich an diesem Tage voller
Bewunderung Jón Sigurðsson, des grossen Forschers und Vor-
kámpfers fiir die Rechte seines Landes, zu dem das islándische
Volk im Bewusstsein des gewaltigen Fortschritts der letzten
hundert Jahre dankbar und verehrungsvoll aufblickt. Ihm war
Konrad Maurer, der Rechtshistoriker der Universitát Miinchen,
in Freundschaft zugetan und hat ihm in seinem Kampfe wirk-
sam zur Seite gestanden. Seit den Tagen dieser beider Gelehr-
