Johanna Holm
Born February 24, 1878 — Died April 19, 1954
Mrs,. Johanna Holm (Hrolfsdottir),
born in Drafladstödum, Thingeyarsýslu,
Iceland, February 24, 1878, passed away
at the home of her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Herron,
667 Valour Road, April 19, 1954.
Mrs. Holm, her husband, (Kristjan
Holm Thordarson) from Isafirdi and
four small children emigrated to Win-
nipeg from Iceland in 1912. Three years
later Mr. Holm contracted pneumonia
and died, leaving Johanna with a
family and a small inheritance. Johanna
moved her family to Winnipeg Beach
where she could use her resources to
best advantage.
When her children were ready for high school she moved back
to Winnipeg and with the help of her children she maintained a
good home.
She attended the Skaldbjorg Church and later the First Luth-
eran Church. Mrs. Holm was also a member of the Icelandic
National League.
She was an outstanding personality, always cheerful and inter-
esting to speak to. Her great pleasure in life was derived from
books. She was a woman endowed with great courage and whole-
some interest in the useful things of life. She performed her life’s
work with real distinction and leaves her children and those who
knew her a lovely example to follow.
Her four children survive her, Maria, Mrs. A. L. Herron,
Domhildur (Hilda), Mrs. Fred Dyer, Thordur Hrolfur (Ralph), of
Winnipeg, Stefan of Santa Ana, California, and one sister, Mrs.
Jonina Olson of Winnipeg.
Dr. R. Marteinsson conducted her funeral service at the Bardal
Funeral Home. T . _
