Björgdís Benson
Born October 26, 1884 — Died October 19, 1954
Mrs. Bjorgdis Benson was born
in Iceland October 26, 1884. She
migrated to Canada with her
parents, Jon and Ingibjorg Skardal,
while a child and lived with them
in Arnes and Gimli till her mar-
riage to Runolfur Benson in 1906.
They made their home in Selkirk
where she resided until her death.
Their union was blessed with four
sons and three daughters: Harold,
Lorne, Vernon and Leslie, and
Sigrun, Sylvia and Elenore. The
family circle remained unbroken
until the mother, who had courage-
ously borne illhealth for the last
two years, was released to enter
eternal life October 19, 1954. Death
could only separate her from her
husband for the short span of nineteen days, when he followed
her to the land beyond.

attractive personality. We remember her as a gracious, efficient
hostess in her beautiful home, as an interested member of the
Women’s Missionary Society and Senior Ladies Aid and the
Lutheran congregation of Selkirk. Her regular attendance at divine
services and meetings proved an inspiration to us all. She was a
person who transmitted joy and courage to others even when her
own strength was slowly ebbing away.
Loa looked on the bright side and never gave way to despond-
ency. I recall many a talk we had during the war years when our
sons were in the services, and she had seen three of hers go forth
