In one of the dictionaries the meaning of the word “worship” is reverence and appreciation. In the service of the Christian church the musical portion is a part of that reverence and ador- ation. Since music has become such an integral part of the Christian service, let us sing hymns and anthems, great in their religious text and great in their musical setting. As a general rule, anthems which have been based on a Bible text, are the most effective, as the sacred word has power above all others. The singing of hymns is an important part of the service. It leaves much to be desired, however. To ensure good hymn singing the Sunday School could play a vital part. Hymns could be taught as part of the lesson, explained thoroughly by the teacher. The
