62 ÁRDÍS Anna Harvey She was born at Heiðarbót in Thingeyjarsýsla on the north coast of Iceland, and she passed away in Vancouver, B.C., aged seventy- five years. She was six years old when she came to Canada and re- sided in Winnipeg for some time. At an early age she began to work and earn her living — always re- membering her mother’s admoni- tion: “To be industrious — to read and to work — but above all things to love God and do His Will.” (An Icelandic quotation from an old poem.) This good advice she fol- lowed all the days of her life. In this beautiful city of Vancou- ver she made her home for more than fifty years. She came when the city was still young and saw it develop and grow. People of Ice- landic descent who arrived at that time are gradually falling by the wayside, but they have done nobly in holding fast to the Icelandic language, literature and traditions. Mrs. Harvey was a charter member of the “Sólskin” society and worked faithfully to bring comfort and cheer to the elderly and needy, these forty-four years since the society was organized. In this city Mrs. Harvey made her home with her husband, who passed away seventeen years ago, and here brought up her two children who now mourn a beloved mother, with four grand- children and four great grandchildren. Here also Mrs. Harvey’s aged mother made her home for many years, receiving love and tender care—fulfilling the commandment “Honour thy Father and thy Mother.” Mrs. Harvey worked hard and unselfishly, though often in
