from the calculations (Table 3). The glacial thinning as shown in Table 3 can be consider- ed as fairly reliable as high as 1100 m, the error hardly amounts to more than ± 20%. On the other hand the estimation of the thinning thereabove is far more inaccurate making the possible error as high as ± 50%. The volume reduction of Breidamerkurjökull was then com- puted with reference to Table 3 and the areal elevation curve of the glacier (Fig. 10). Accord- ing to these calculations nearly 40% of the total reduction has taken place above the 1100 m contour line.
