B-klassens særpreg.
I første del av teksten forteller Faren blant annet om Irland,
Island og Grønland. De fleste håndskriftene har avsnittene om de
tre landene i den nevnte rekkefølgen, mens en gruppe skiller seg
ut ved å ha avsnittet om Irland mellom avsnittene om Island og
Grønland. Den består av hovedh., fly og de to islandske håndskrif-
tene e og n. Disse kalles i det følgende B-klassen. De håndskriftene
som har rekkefølgen Irland, Island, Grønland, er a, c, f, i, k, q,
1913, 9 (d), 14, 17, a. De kalles foreløbig med Finnur Jonssons
betegnelse a-klassen (som ikke er identisk med A-klassen i det
følgende). En rekke håndskrifter er så defekte at det ikke kan
sees hvordan ordningen har vært. Det er g, hl, hil, hlll, 1, r,
695, å, e og 1016, som alle foreløbig må holdes utenfor under-
søkelsen.
Flertallets rekkefølge med Island og Grønland i sammenheng er
i og for seg den naturligste. I denne rekkefølgen nevnes landene
i B-klassens håndskrifter første gang Sønnen bringer dem på bane
(s. 13.12), og en nøyaktigere undersøkelse av teksten bekrefter at
rekkefølgen Irland, Island, Grønland er den opprinnelige. Det er
overgangsreplikkene mellom avsnittene som røper det opprinnelige
forholdet. De er nemlig gjengitt noenlunde ordrett i begge klassers
håndskrifter, mens de bare passer inn i a-klassens ordning.
Sønnens replikk 14.38-41 (e) danner i begge klassene overgangen
til behandlingen av alle de tre landene: Pessir hlutir eru mier allir
leunnir puiat peir eru hier j landi. og hef eg alla sena. en hinir eru
