naleneintrågen ziehen, als sich tatsåchlich daraus ziehen lassen. Man
kann den Annaleneintrågen nur entnehmen, daB sich die Politik der
Konigin Margarethe im Hinblick auf die Besteuerung der Islander
durch nichts von der ihrer Vorganger auf dem norwegischen Thron
oder der spateren dånisch-norwegischen Konige unterschied,75 und
daB die Amtsenthebungen im Bistum Skålholt auf Betreiben des Bi-
schofs Michael damit zusammenhingen, daB man sich, wie schon seit
langem, den legitimen Geboten der Bischofe in Fragen der Moral
und der Verwaltung des Besitzes der Kirchen heftig widersetzte.76
DaB diese Annaleneintrage von Weltuntergangsstimmung oder Angst
und Ungewifiheit zeugen sollen, ist schlicht abwegig. Es war viel
eher so, daB die Islander sich wenig Gedanken iiber die rechtliche
Stellung des Landes im Reichsverband machten, der Oberschicht ging
es ausschlieBlich darum, sich ihre eigene Freiheit und die ausgehan-
delten Privilegien zu erhalten, dem Volk aber war dies gleichgiiltig.77
Die Islander scheinen sich nicht fur die Konigswahl interessiert zu
haben, denn die Verbindungen zwischen den Landern hatten sich
gelockert, und nach 1319 residierte der Konig von Norwegen meist
in Schweden und spater in Danemark. Die Islander huldigten einfach
dem rechtmåBigen Konig von Norwegen, der gelobte, die geltenden
Gesetze und Privilegien zu achten. Tatsåchlich wissen die islåndischen
Annalen fast nichts iiber Håkon vi. Magnusson zu berichten, und
viele von ihnen erwåhnen nicht einmal seinen Tod oder die Huldigung
Konig Olafs iv., seines Sohnes. Nur der Lggmannsannall und der
Flateyjarannall erwåhnen iiberhaupt den Thronwechsel.78
