The ratio (%) of projects classified by project types and external/external projects. The internal project types ratios are, on average, very similar across the sectors. Among all projects from different sectors, IT and infrastructure projects score highest and organizational and human resource (HR) projects scored the lowest, however, the range is only 3%. The external projects are relatively fewer (13%) and the range is also higher, as the cross industrial differences are 6%. The majority of Icelandic projects (≈ 85%) are internal projects, with IT projects being the most frequent/numerous. Next is the relative share (%) of work assigned to projects in different industrial sectors at three instances in time—the past (2009), close to present (2014) and in the future (2019). The year 2014 was selected to exhibit the present situation, partly due to reliable information access and partly to be able to compare the results to the German study which was conducted earlier.
