um hafa menn fundið jarðmyndanir (einkum vatnaset) með afbrigðilega segulstefnu, sem verið gætu frá tíma- bili Skálamælifellsatburðarins. Oft hafa þó verið vandkvæði á að aidurs- greina viðkomandi lög og eins leikur iðulega vafi á því að lögin hafi varð- veitt raunverulega stefnu jarðsegul- sviðsins. Svo er meðal annars um gos- berg á tveim stöðum í Henglinum sem Trausti Einarsson (1976, bls. 145-149) lýsti á sínum tíma. Aldursgreiningaraðferðum fer nú stöðugt fram, ekki síst með tilkomu nýrra tækja sem nýta agnahraðla og leysigeisla. Vonandi fjölgar því mæl- ingum á aldri gosmyndana frá seinni hluta ísaldar hérlendis á næstu árum. SUMMARY New K-Ar dating of Weichselian formations in Iceland by Leó Kristjánsson Science Institute University of Iceland Dunhaga 3 IS-107 REYKJA VÍK Iceland This paper decribes recent radiometric dating of a geomagnetic excursion record- ed in lava flows in SW-Iceland (Levi et al. 1990). Its age turns out to be about 42 thousand years, and it is expected to be the same excursion as found in lavas at Laschamp in France in 1967, as well as more recently in New Zealand. This work is a small step towards filling a relative “dating gap” for formations ol' 15 thou- sand to one million years age in Iceland. 139
