Role description:
The Authority is looking for an expert
in the field of European energy law
with a strong knowledge of internal
market law. The successful appli-
cant will be responsible for monitor-
ing the implementation and appli-
cation of EEA law by the EFTA States
in the field of energy (internal mar-
ket for gas and electricity, renew-
ables, energy efficiency, etc.).
The successful applicant will be
working closely with other case han-
dlers in the field of environment and
climate change, and may also be
assigned case handling responsibil-
ities in other areas of EEA law. The
tasks will involve analytical work on
legal issues, conducting infringe-
ment and notification procedures
and representing the Internal Market
Affairs Directorate in meetings with
the EFTA States and the EU institu-
tions.
Essential Skills:
● University degree in law, or equiva-
lent, and, preferably, a post-gradu-
ate degree in Euro pean law,
● Very good knowledge of the gene ral
framework of the EEA or EU law,
● Expertise in energy law and inter-
nal market law,
● Minimum 3 years of relevant work-
ing experience in private and/or
public sector,
● Excellent command of written and
spoken English,
● Ability to work both independently
and in a team in an international
environment.
Desirable:
● Expertise in EEA/EU Environ mental
law,
● Knowledge of, and familiarity with
the functioning of the Euro pean
Economic Area, and the EFTA
States,
● Professional experience involving
the institutions of the EU and the
EEA and/or comparable public
bodies,
● Good understanding of Norwe gian,
Icelandic, or German (EFTA lan-
guages).
Performance Indicators:
The performance indicators for this
position include subject matter
knowledge, analytical skills and prob-
lem solving, quality and result orien-
tation, compliance with internal rules,
processes and instructions, autono-
my, motivation to work and initiative,
and personal efficiency and coping
with stress.
Conditions:
The position is placed at grade A4 of
the salary scale, starting at
€ 83.386,68 per year. Appointments
are normally made at Step 1 of a
grade. A higher step can be consid-
ered on the basis of the candidate's
qualifications and experience.

While its staff members shall normal-
ly be nationals of one of the three
EFTA States party to the EEA
Agreement, the Authority will also
consider other applications, primarily
those of nationals of the other States
that are party to the EEA Agreement.
Type and duration of appointment:
fixed-term contract of three years.

fixed-term contract of three years
may be offered.
The EFTA Surveillance Authority monitors compliance by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway with the law of the European Economic Area, enabling those
countries to participate in the European internal market. In monitoring and enforcing the EEA Agreement, the Authority has powers that correspond to those
of the European Commission. The Authority is based in Brussels and operates independently of the EFTA States. The Authority is led by a College which
consists of three members appointed by the EEA EFTA States.
