Fig.8 shows the annual range of temperature, i.e.
the difference between the average temperatures of
the warmest and coldest months. This difference is
rather small in Iceland with the lowest values, below
9°C, along the east coast. The lowest single value is
8.7°C at Dalatangi. The range is in general below
11°C at the coasts. In most inland regions the values
are 12°-14°C with a maximum above 15°C in the
northeastem highlands.
Fig.9 describes the mean winter temperature
1936-1985 (January-March). Only limited areas
along the coast in the southern part of the country
have values above 0°C. The highest single values are
1.8°C for Vestmannaeyjar and 1.7°C for Vík, the two
southemmost weather stations. In the westem part of
the country the values are generally -0.5°C to -1°C
near the coast but decreasing to -2°C in the inner
parts.
