collected from the site, all from the upper
layers of a sheet midden that extends to the
east of the domestic buildings, indicate that
the farmstead was still occupied well into
the second half of the llth century before
being abandoned sometime before AD
1100.
Results of a GPR survey conducted in
2009 revealed a circular anomaly
approximately 16 meters in diameter
located to the southeast of the main
concentration of farmstead buildings. The
anomaly was suggestive of early Christian
cemetery walls and a small excavation
was targeted for a possible grave-like
anomaly close to the southem edge of the
enclosure wall. Excavation revealed a
Christian-style grave and further
excavation to the north confirmed the
presence of a circular enclosure wall
(Zoega and Sigurðarson 2010). An
unexcavated anomaly in the center of the
cemetery conforms to the expected
location and dimensions of a small,
