Abstract
The goal of TECLA (total extracorporeal lung assistance) is to
provide a mechanism for total gas exchange outside the body,
when conventional ventilatory therapy has failed, thereby
allowing timefor diseased lungs to recover. Problemsparticular
to tbis treatment are discussed, s.a. impaired gas exchange,
altered nutritional needs, proceedings and maintainance of
unconsciousness and hypothermia, the adverse effects of using
high technology and the needs of relatives.
