Internet connection. Computer or other devices connected
to the Internet. An Internet address, or IP address, is
assigned to each device connected to the network. —>

Internet. The name Internet alludes to the interconnection
of computer networks and the creation of gateways to them
extending to most countries of the world.
ISDN basic and primary. Integrated Services Digital
Network telephone lines within the fixed telephone network.
ISDN connections are either basic or primary lines Two
users can be connected at the same time on each basic line,
and up to 30 on each primary line.
ISIC classification. International classification of economic
activities of the United Nations (International Standard
Classification of all economic activities).
ISAT classification. The Icelandic version of the statistical
classification of economic activities in the European
Community and the European Economic Area, NACE, Rev.
1 (Nomenclature générale des activitées économiques dans

Literary works. Works of literature (poetry, plays, novels,
short stories, essays, etc.) as classified according to the
Dewey Decimal Classification with the numbers 810-

Local paper. A newspaper containing material which is
primarily of interest within a specific town or district. -»

Magazine. -> periodical
Main telephone line. A telephone line in the fixed telephone
network, whether this is for an analogue telephone (PSTN)
or an ISDN line. There may be more than one user for each
main telephone line. The total number of user lines gives an
approximation of the number of subscribers within the

Monthly paper. A newspaper issued monthly on the
average.
Museums, aquariums, zoos and gardens. Any permanent
institution open to the public which serves the role of
collecting and displaying objects, live animals and plants in
order that they may be used for research, instruction and
entertainment. This also includes scientific centres open to
the public. The concept of museum (museum, centre and
park) is used here in a somewhat broader meaning than the
defmition of the Intemational Council of Museums, but
without including national parks and individual sites of

National paper. a) a newspaper which does not have a
localised content emphasis; b) newspaper circulated
nationwide. -» regional paper; local paper
Nationality of film/video. Determining the nationality of a
film/video has become a major problem with the increasing
growth of multinational co-productions. In the most
simplistic terms, nationality of a film can be ascribed to the
nationality of the producer who is artistically responsible
for the production. In the case of bilateral and multilateral
co-production agreements the following factors should be
taken into account when deciding the nationality of a fiim:
the nationality of the production company and its directors,
the nationality of the authors (scriptwriters, screenplay
authors, etc.), the actors and technical staff, etc. Cf. European

Newspaper. A publication issued weekly or more frequently,
carrying news of current events, opinions, features, advertising

Periodical. A continuous publication that may be issued at
regular intervals (e.g. weekly, monthly, fortnightly, yearly)
or irregularly, containing a variety of articles, specialised or
designed for the general reader; a magazine or joumal. The
term does not include newspapers. Cf. ISO 9707: 1991

Physical unit. An individual publication (such as a book or
sound recording) which is distinguished from other
publications by being bound separately, in separate
packaging or distinguished by other technical means.
Professional theatre group. A theatre troupe employing
professional actors, most often engaged temporarily in
connection with specific productions, and which has
facilities for presentation at its disposal only for a limited

Programme channel. Radio/television channel transmitting
its own programme schedule. Cf. EUROSTAT, AUVIs

Programme profile. Main features of programming of a
radio/television channel with respect to content and
characteristics (age, socio-economic status, etc.) of

Public library is a library open to the general public and
operated by municipalities (including libraries in hospitals,
elderly-care institutions, prisons, etc.). Cf. ActNo. 36/1997,

Regional paper. a) a newspaper containing primarily
material of interest to a specific region of a country; b) a
newspaper which has primarily a regional distribution. -»
